FKRS understands it represents part of a much larger supply chain which must endeavour to be "Environmentally Clean".

FKRS has thus developed a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire distributed to all FKRS suppliers and specific to their Sustainability Strategies and C02e. Information received is then assessed, rated and communicated to our clients, giving them a greater understanding of the combined environmental impact to any project.

During 2007 FKRS measured the companies HQ Carbon Footprint which equates to 2.55 Tonnes C02e / FKRS employee / annum:

In order to understand the level of C02e generated on site, FKRS have set up a process for all Site Managers / Supervisors to record relevant information including miles travelled in transport of materials, amount of fuel used to power site plant, waste levels and proportion recycled etc, to give the client a greater understanding of the total Embodied Energy of any panel installed on site per square meter.

In 2007, Project Sand C - Milton Keynes was te first project FKRS undertook the referenced data gathering exercise and following calculations the table above shows KG / C02e / m2.

This information will be used as Bench Mark for future project C02e figures.

FKRS will be reporting on the whole business and its environmental and social performance every year under the key issues set out withing our Sustainability Strategy.

We will be analysing the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) guidelines as a reporting framework for this report and will also be consulting the Key Performance Indicators put forward by the Construction Products Institute.

The report will be made externally available to all FKRS Stakeholders.

Implement a Waste Management System (inc. a recycling collection scheme). Develop and implement a Green Procurement Policy. Implement low energy HVAC and lighting. Minimise our travel carbon footprint through the development of a Green Transport Plan (inc. sourcing of low carbon vehicles).

Implement a Site Waste Management Plan Ensure by 2008, only 10% waste on-site will go to landfill. Reduce waste by 25% on-site by 2008 against 2007 levels.

Measure operational carbon footprint for our business operations. Measure carbon footprints on all new development sites. Measure the embodied carbon impact of the machinery we use on -site. Identify ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our machinery on-site, e.g. use

of bio diesel. Investigate opportunity to use a common site tank. Investigate lead times for a building in summer and winter.

Formulate a common understanding of carbon foot printing that can be utilised by the building sector. Join Battle McCarthy in an industry-wide seminar on developing sustainability metrics. Calculate the environmental impact of the materials we specify. Educate

and advise design teams on material specification from a sustainability point of view.

Targets

Hold Sustainability Workshops for our sub-contractors. Set up an award system for our employees. Develop a RIBA-certified Sustainability CPD and communicate to our six main customers. The CPD will include carbon footprint analysis of built up Vs composite panels,

integration of PV on roof space and implementation of green roofs onto buildings).

Publish a Interim Sustainability Report in September. Improve electronic communication on sustainability issues to our employees and our supply chain.

  • FKRS site managers/ supervisors are trained and responsible for initiatives in terms of Sustainability implementation on site.
  • All pallets used for delivery of FKRS materials must be picked up by suppliers for recycle/reuse.
  • Plastics used for FKRS materials delivered to site can (in some cases) be bailed for recycling purposes
  • FKRS roof & wall fixings are supplied in recycled plastic containers enabling re-use.
  • FKRS site managers/ supervisors monitor all levels of water consumption, transportation miles of deliveries etc and report figures to HQ which are used to calculate site specific CO2e.
  • FKRS supply individual skips on site for wood, metal and plastic recycling.
  • FKRS police skips on site to eradicate contamination by other partners.
  • FKRS optimise deliveries where possible to and from site by logistical programming / phasing of material installation (Just in Time Delivery).
  • FKRS site managers/ supervisors are trained to deal with any pollution incidents which may occur on site (IOSH & SMSTS
